White Rain

I remember the first time I used White Rain.  About 25 years ago I was vacationing at my most favorite place on the planet (Ashland, NH) and my parents picked up some White Rain at the local Shur-Fine.  That was the first time I saw this bottle and even back then I loved it.

The mildly Bauhaus font is simple and embellished.  The title, variety and product statement are inside a tiled  raindrop.  The drop is made of a solid color surrounded by two “ascending” color outlines.  Love it!  The raindrop would be differenty colors depending on the variety.  We had the blue.

The new bottle is clear and set up much differently .  The title text has changed to be a little more scripty and surrounded by a blue oval with a thin grey outline.  ”Shampoo” is not outlined in a band of stripes like on the old bottle, and can be looked over at first glance.  The design on the lower half of the bottle looks like three wavy…things.  I guess they could be strands of hair(?) and below that is a grey wavy line and product variety.

I feel like the new bottle lacks the character and recognizability of the old one.  I feel like it also has less shelf-appeal and could easily be passed-over for a better looking bottle.  It looks like it went from being a substantial product to a lesser-quality version of itself.

This one’s no comparison at all – old bottle, hands down! :D

I miss this shampoo ever so much. I can’t find it anywhere, where I live. The closest I can find is Suave’s Mountain Rain or whatever it’s called.

I was actually going to write to you and suggest for you to cover this!

The three lines are supposed to be water drops!

I think those lines are actually designed to evoke both water drops AND curls of hair. Genius!

Prefer the new bottle only for the ability to stand on its head.

dont you think the new bottle looks just a little to much like the suave bottles?

I remember destroying countless bottles of my mother’s White Rain shampoo by using the bottle as a BOAT when I was playing in the tub. I would submerge the BOAT under water, thus watering down the shampoo. It took her many years to figure out how this was happening!

I like the look of the older bottle as well. I think this product was first introduced by Gillette before they sold it off to another company. One of the Mandrell sisters pitched it too long ago. Whoever acquired the company owes SZA risidules(sp) for using the boat idea. Their products are now so watered down that the $1.00 retail is not even justifiable!
