I loved trident as a kid.  I think I was actually in love with the fruit flavor, not the Tropical Fruit flavor they have now, but classic fruit.  I don’t know when it was discontinued- maybe in the early 90’s, but was just awesome.  When I was in middle school, this boy I was “going out” with got me a whole box of it.  I was in heaven!  I foolishly thought it would last me for years but I think I tore through it in a week.
Anyway…
The top photo is from a 1986 ad.  This design features simple stripes, strong, clean fonts and a well-behaved equilateral triangle dotting the “i”.  It’s simple, clear and actually pleasant to look at.  You see all you need to know:
Trident
Sugarless Gum
Cinnamon
and if your brain feels like working a little harder, it’ll also see there’s a great new taste.

Current Trident has a little more slanty font with a mildly radioactive outer glow and perhaps an obtuse triangle? (I can’t tell if the left corner is more than 90 degrees) which rebelliously stretches out of bounds from the ”i”.   Also, there’s an addition of  falling/fallen cinnamon sticks.  I see something going on starting in the lower left behind the lettering too.  Some sort of streamlined waviness.
It’s okay but when compared to the old Trident it just looks too busy.  The current design shouts Trident and does have the visual of the cinnamon sticks but I wonder why the word ”cinnamon” is so small- and “sugar free gum” is even smaller.  “A Classic is Back!” is featured nicely but as far as I know cinnamon flavor never went away.  Maybe they’re practicing for when they bring classic fruit flavor back!

Old definitely. The look is classic. The new one is ok, but I like the nice lines and classic look to the old one.

Where can i vote for “neither”? Both packages are not to my liking at all. Too much red!

I feel like Trident lost its identity with the package update. The classic design was unique to Trident. The new version could be anything.

I find the old version more fun and interesting to look at, I feel as though I would be more apt to pick up the old look and purchase it whereas the new one I’d just pass by without a thought.

The older design is definitely more favored. The new one looks waaaayyyy to uninviting for me.

As a half-Latvian, I can appreciate the Latvian flag color /stripe scheme the first one has goin’ on.
