Nothing compares to you: Dimension

Sometimes I come across products that died before they had a chance to be around long enough for re-design.  I found enough of these gems to make a new category and will post them periodically.
I remember using Dimension in the 80’s, which is weird because Finesse usually dominated the shower (it had such an awesome scent). I’m not sure when Dimension was discontinued but this image is from a 1985 ad.  This is one of those packages that is just so perfect that I’m glad it didn’t survive to get re-designed.  You might notice it was the inspiration for this blog theme too.  I love colors,  the rainbow, the title font and the way it’s slanted at an angle. It’s sporty, “modern”, and even a little classy.  All that combined with a simple tapered bottle, really works nicely and makes it an instant classic.  I give it an A!

First of all, LOVE your site! It’s super fun and I always look forward to your next entry. :D

My memory must be off by about 7 years or so – I am SHOCKED that this bottle is from ‘85!! In my head, this looks really ‘78. I would think that a bottle from ‘85 would be white or pastel-colored with funky triangles all over it. Maybe that was just my wardrobe. Or maybe the bottle was like that for 7 years. :D

You’re right Mel, I guess it does look pretty 70’s! I know, youd think coming rom 1985 the bottle would be white with paint plattered on it and geometric shapes floating around.

wait i’m confused… do you like tapered bottles or not? in your post about seabreeze you said “for some reason i just dont like tapered bottles” (or something along those lines) but here you like them?

Lol, thanks for caring about that issue! In general I’m not a big fan of tapered bottles but sometimes they work with a design. But like I said in my about statement, please don’t take anything too seriously about this blog, we’re just having some fun here :)

Did you ever shop at Caldor when they had their yellow, orange and brown rainbow logo? I miss that store; I always shopped there as a kid with my mom, and now any 70s style lines in succession in an orange color palate always reminds me of that.

I like the blog, but I’m waiting for the next Nothing Compares to You post.

I gave the bottle design a “B” because while I think it’s a wonderful design, the shape of the bottle and chosen color combination makes me think I am looking at a bottle of ‘Magic Shell’ or some other ice cream sauce. So, while I love the design, I feel it’s in the wrong product category.

And, now I see where you got the idea for the banner at the top of your blog. :)
