Head & Shoulders

Head & Shoulders has come a long way from the way it looked in the 1986 ad on the left.   The long-necked bottle features a couple of bendy, tapering lines that divides the label between white and blue sections.  I don’t know if this design is supposed to be symbolic of something.  I was thinking maybe it’s abstract hair and water(?).  Simple design and font.  I think the lines and the shape of the bottle were effective in making it recognizable from the store shelf.

The current bottle is more streamlined and has a slight convex curve on one side.  It kept the idea of curvy lines going across the bottle. One line has a watery-looking design and the other is a blue gradient.   They’ve also added some sort of swirly logo at the top.  There are quite a few varieties of  Head & Shoulders now-a-days so I just picked “Classic Clean”.  Depending on the mission of the variety (besides fighting dandruff), the color of the wave will change to a different color but the swirly thing and the bottle top are always blue.  The font on the current bottle stayed simple, it’s not shiny or wavy or shadowed.  Another thing I noticed is that the H and S have been lower-cased for whatever reason.
I think both versions are easy on the eyes.  I think the older version is a little prettier to look at but I like the shape of the new bottle.

    Definitely old. It’s a classic!

Old looks so much better. It was easier to hold the bottle too. I think the product itself has improved though. I used to never be able to use it without my hair feeling like a brittle mess after.

The product itself has definitely improved. It doesn’t stink like I remember it used to.

The new package has a slicker design, but the old bottle has more character.

Definitely old, much better bottle, better colours too.

The new bottle does seems more practical. It’s a shame they couldn’t have incorporated the classic color scheme.

I don’t know why, but I can’t see myself using the older bottle. Looks to crude and beach-y. The newer one is a lot more modern and I like the water curve.
