I work at my town’s historical society and when I first started I noticed the air freshener in the bathroom was an artifact  itself.  I even asked if that was a joke because we’re a museum but amazingly NO ONE thought anything of having this ancient can of Glade!
I tried looking for a date on the can but there’s nothing indicating what year this was produced.  I’ll guess early-mid 70’s.
I thought it was so awesome that I asked my boss if  I could take it home if  I replaced it with a new can and now it’s on the mantle at home.  My husband is thrilled : )
I just love this can because of the stylized flowers and the simple font and colors used.  Even more simple is the scent name, which is just “Golden”.  I  thought  that was interesting.  I mean, what does “golden” smell like?   (If anyone is wondering, it smells like an old-lady’s house.)
The new Glade has a little more going on.  The scent is more descriptive: “Lilac Spring” and to visually supplement that, they have a photo of lilac flowers in the background.  The Glade text has changed to a quasi-cursive at the top of the can.  It’s a little too loopy for my taste but I do appreciate that they didn’t go beveling, shading or glowing the text.
The 70’s can is just so adorable though, I wish they still looked like that.

Glade: Old or new?

The old one looks like it could be a can of WD-40 or something! I’m voting for the new one because I’d be unlikely to mistakenly spray it on a squeeky door hinge.

Lol, Kevin is that why the front door smelled like Golden?

I had to vote new on this one. Just the look of the can and the scent name is what sold me. Although if I had found that can, my first thought would be, “Wow, that thing is old… cool!”

    New, definitely.

I’m going to go with the new one on this one. The first thing I thought of when I saw the old can was a can of spray paint.

Newer one all the way. The lilacs look gorgeous and the cursive Glade really accents the bottle.

And if Golden=Old Lady Home…then of course I won’t use it. I hate that smell. >.<

That can may be from the 70’s, but the “Glade” font goes back further–I’ve seen a TV commercial from 1964 for it which has the same printing, without the graphics.

Oh my God I remember this can! It was in my parents bathroom for what seemed like a huge chunk of my childhood. It has to be early 70’s or maybe even late 60’s. Brrr – I have the chills now! ;)
