Bain de Soliel

The old Bain de Soliel on the left doesn’t have  a date on it but when I went to buy this (at my local living museum) the dust on it was black and the cashier said “I have to be honest with you, this has been out on the shelf for - I don’t even know how long.  I can’t charge you for this.”  Since there are plenty of items that are from the 80’s in this store, I believe this is from the mid-80’s.
The title text is a thin, red font with “Suntan Gelee Orange” in black cursive.  The number 4, signifying the SPF is displayed prominently under the text.  At the bottom of the tube is (in my opinion) the only feature that makes this package interesting: 4 stripes in descending sun-tone stripes.  I just have a thing for stripes, especially in these colors.

The new package now has the opening of the tube below the text but for the most part follows the same text layout.  The graphic has moved above the text and instead of stripes a kind of splotchy, abstract sun is there.  As much as I love the stripes (and I do love them) on the old tube, there is something appealing about the splotches on the new one, they remind me of a Start Davis painting.  I also like the thinner text, it looks classier in a way and even though I normally don’t like all caps, it works nicely with the font used for “Orange gelee”.  The bottom is one stripe with the information of SPF 4 and it’s kind of interesting that it’s changed from “Suntan Gelee” to “Gelee” type “Sunscreen”.

I think overall the new package looks pretty good and this is the first post I can honestly say I think the new package looks better than the old one.
